Isn't "hound" a more common word? Or is it common to use hunting dogs as well?

While "hound" is common to use when describing a hunting dog, it is perfectly fine to use the phrase "hunting dog" as well instead of "hound". Both "hound" and "hunting dog" are used commonly so it doesn't really matter which one is used.
