To "stay around" means to not leave or go somewhere. In this video, Steve Jobs has used this expression to state that he stayed around (didn't leave) his school for a year and a half before officially leaving. Ex: I stayed around for an hour, waiting for the coffee shop to open. Ex: My father was an alcoholic. He only stayed around for a year or two when I was a kid before he left for good.
