Is "ought to" like an informal way of speech for "have to?"

Wow, great question! "Ought to" is another way to say "should". "Ought to" gives advice. "Have to" is another way to say "must". "Have to" tells someone something they 100% must do, or else there will be a consequence. Ex: You ought to send her a card to say thank you for the gift. Ex: You have to send her a card to say thank you for the gift. If you don't, you will lose your job.
