What does "parchment paper" mean? What makes it different from ordinary paper? In what circumstances could I use it?

"Parchment paper," also known as "baking paper," is a type of translucent paper and is non-stick, grease-proof, and heat-resistant. It is used for baking so that the baked goods don't stick to the pan and can easily be removed! Ex: I lined the tin with parchment paper so I can take the cake out easily when it's done. It's better than scraping it off the tin. Ex: Do we have any baking paper for the cookies?
