student asking question

I assume the word "major" refers to students' specialty in the university. Then, do you call non-major classes like liberal arts "minor," perhaps?

Yes, a major is one's specialty at school. You can also have a minor in addition to a major, which is also a specialization but to a lesser degree. Schools usually have requirements about how many courses from a certain department or major you must take before it can be considered your major. For minors, it is similar but to a lesser degree. (For example, a school may require that out of 100 credits needed to graduate, you must take 60 credits from a specific area of study to declare a major. For a minor, it might be 40 credits. This is just an example). Ex: I majored in finance and minored in marketing. Ex: I have a double-minor in linguistics and cognitive psychology.
