What's the main difference between "in general" and "overall?"

Both can be used synonymously in most cases. In terms of nuance, "Overall" is larger and brings everything together. "In general" means that something is true for most cases. Ex: In general, office workers spend a lot of time sitting in chairs. (The sentence applies to most office workers) Ex: Overall, the project was successful. (Taking everything into consideration, the project was successful)
