What's the main difference between "convince" and "persuade?"

So the main difference is that "convince" means to cause someone to believe something is true, and "persuade" means to cause someone to do something through reasoning or argument. However! They can be interchangeable, as they are here. Ex: We convinced Jonathan that aliens are real. Ex: We persuaded Jonathan to get a tattoo of our names. Ex: They convinced us to go with them. = They persuaded us to go with them.
