It's an adjective! If something is "ablaze," it means that it's on fire and burning intensely. You can use it to describe the way something is burning. It can also be used to mean a metaphorical burning, that you do or feel something completely. Ex: He was ablaze with excitement. => full of excitement and expressing it. Ex: The whole cabin was ablaze when the firefighters arrived. Ex: She set Jo's writing ablaze in Little Women. => "set ablaze" means to "cause to burn."
