"Made of" can be used to describe the basic material of something that doesn't change. Ex: Chairs are made of wood. In this example, wood has not changed from something else. It is always wood. "Made from" is used when something is created by a material that gets changed throughout the process of making it. Ex: Paper is made from wood. Here, paper changed from wood. So we use "made from" to indicate this change.
