Kind of! To "put on" something means to place it on you. Such as clothes, jewelry, shoes, and so on. So, you need to "put [something] on" to "wear" it. Ex: I can't wear a red dress! It doesn't match with my bag and shoes. I'll put the blue dress on instead. Ex: He put his watch on before leaving the house.
