Can I just use singular "hand" instead of plural "hands"?

In order to clap, you need to use two hands, so only "hands" in the plural form is right. The song in this video is a very famous children's song, and the lines cannot be changed. Ex: The woman was so moved by the pianist's performance that she clapped her hands until they hurt. Ex: The child was delighted with his birthday present, and clapped his hand in delight.
