Just curious, why is the cowboy so popular in American culture?
Answer from a Native speaker
Cowboys have been a part of American culture for years. They originated in Mexico, but American cowboys created a style of their own. They became a thing when the US expanded westward in the 1800s and cowboys herded cattle. While the cowboy lifestyle died down, Hollywood made Western movies that popularized the cowboy lifestyle in the 1920s and 1940s, and they're still popular until this day.
