What's the origin of the word "manner?"

The word "manner" comes from a Latin word meaning "hand" or "of the hand." From my understanding, it relates because how one decides to do things with their hands is the manner in which one does things. Ex: Not excusing yourself from the table is bad manners. Ex: It's good manners to serve your guests first.
