"Apparently" means as far as one knows or can see. Something seems to be true, but you aren't certain that it's true. It also can be used when a real situation turned out differently than expected. Ex: He's apparently going to be studying abroad next year. Ex: I'm apparently going to have to babysit my nephew this weekend. Ex: I thought he was in his 20s. Apparently, he's almost 40. Ex: I thought we were friends, but apparently, we aren't.
