Kiwi asks…

What's "in best interest" mean? What's "interest" mean here?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

To be in "one's best interest[s]" means to be beneficial or advantageous to someone. Here, the speaker says "not in our best interests right now" to mean "not the most beneficial to us right now." Ex: It's in your best interest to get a good amount of sleep every night. Ex: He claims that he has my best interests at heart, but I disagree.
