Not quite, since "always" means "all of time," but "this" references a specific time frame, so not "always," just a certain amount of time. So, perhaps, he means the time they've been together, he's tried not to be a bad boy. Or he means all the times in other relationships. Ex: All this time I've been trying to impress my boss, she finally noticed my hard work! Ex: I've always tried to impress the people around me.
