Just curiosity, but can foreigners acquire a driver's license in the United States?

The short answer is yes. There are two ways in which foreigners can drive in the United States. Firstly a foreign visitor, in some states, is required to have an International Driving Permit (IDP) and a valid license from their own country. The United States does not issue IDPs to foreign visitors so to get an IDP, foreigners have to get them in their own country. The residency requirement for obtaining a U.S. driver's license is different in each state. However, if you are eligible to apply for a driver's license, you must get a driver's license from the state where you live.
