Kiwi asks…

What does "drastic" mean? Does it have the same meaning as "dramatic?"

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

"Drastic" is similar to "dramatic," but it's actually closer in meaning to "extreme" or "radical." It means to have a strong or far-reaching effect. But something that's "drastic" could also be "dramatic." Ex: There has been a drastic decrease in sales of our product. Ex: Her choice to move overseas was a bit drastic. Ex: A: We made the drastic choice to cancel the event. B: That's a bit dramatic. Isn't it?
