Kiwi asks…

What does "overactive" mean? Which words can I use with other than "imagination"?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

"Overactive" means that something is too active, or working too hard. So if you have an "overactive imagination", it means that you imagine everything or you imagine things that are not true. This word is often used to describe bodily functions. Ex: He has an overactive metabolism so he is always hungry. Ex: An overactive thyroid can cause heart failure. Ex: My mind is overactive; I am always thinking. You can also use "overactive" to describe people who have too much energy or who are hyperactive. However, the word "hyperactive" is generally used more frequently. Ex: He is an overactive boy.
