Why is "an" attached to the noun "M"?

Remember the rule of "a/an." If the word starts with a vowel sound, you must use "an." If the word starts with a consonant sound, you use "a." Some words that start with the letter "h" are preceded by "an," but that is because the "h" syllable sounds like a vowel. Ex: An hour - "hour" sounds like "our," which is a vowel sound, so "an" is used here. Ex: A half - "half" also starts with an "h" but it is a consonant sound, so only "a" can be used here.
