Kiwi asks…

What does "wallow in something" mean?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

The phrase "wallow in something" has two opposite meanings. The first, and positive meaning is to allow yourself to enjoy something completely. Ex: My dream holiday would be a luxury hotel and just wallowing in comfort. The second meaning is what is being used in this clip and has a more negative meaning. It means to remain in an unhappy feeling or situation without trying to get out of it, as if you are enjoying it or trying to get sympathy or pity from other people. Ex: I wish she'd do something positive instead of just wallowing in her sadness!
