Kiwi asks…

Does "minion" not have any offensive meaning if it is used in a conversation with close friends?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

If one were to use the word seriously, then yes! It would be very offensive. Here it's used as a joke, and the friend also knows it's a joke. So, it's okay! Ex: My friends are really just my minions to make me food and care for me. => joke Ex: Jane is actually just my minion. I'm just using her to do my homework for me. => mean and offensive
