Not quite! Here, "way" means "manner" or "method." Since the plank wasn't cooperating going up one way, they tried another. You could also say "how" here too! Ex: What are some ways we can get sponsors for prom? Ex: If that's how it wants to go up, that's how it's gonna go. Ex: I like your way of planning more than mine.
