From the scientific perspective, a mineral is a solid substance that occurs naturally. It can be made from a single element (like gold or copper), or from a combination. They are important to all living creatures because we need them to be healthy. They perform a few important functions for humans: they help us build and maintain strong bones and teeth, they control body fluids inside and outside cells, and they turn the food we eat into energy. This is why many people take mineral supplements, such as iron and magnesium supplements, to support healthy bodily function!
