Great question. In English we have "wake", "awake" and "awaken" as three different verbs with very similar meanings. There past tense forms are "woke" "awoke" and "awakened." Ex: I woke up and immediately checked my phone. 예: I awoke and immediately checked my phone. 예: I awakened and immediately checked my phone. All three of the above examples basically mean the same thing. However in everyday conversation I would suggest avoiding "awoke" and "awakened". The use of awoke or awakened sounds a little old-fashioned or poetic. Which is why it is used here as the movie is set in the past.
