「Take away from [something]」とは、何かのプラスの効果や成功の度合いを減らすということです。それらを対象から引き離すということですね。反対にプラスの効果を与えるときには、「add to something」と言うことができます。ここでは、あまり意味のない曖昧な表現が多すぎると、メッセージが伝わりづらくなると言っています。 例: I feel like the overuse of description took away from the meaning of the poem.（描写の多用が、この詩の意味を薄めているように感じる。） 例: The music really adds to the emotion of the movie.（音楽が映画の感動を高めている。） 例: The featured artist really takes away from the song. It would be better without them in it.（コラボ相手のせいで曲の良さが半減している。このアーティストがいないほうがいい。）
