Should I always use preposition "in" when using the word "hit someone"?

When we are talking about a specific area of the body that has been hit, "in" is necessary. Steve Jobs is stating metaphorically that the head has been hit, so "in" has been used here. We need this preposition for this sentence here. Ex: She was hit in the head by a baseball. Ex: He was hit in the stomach accidentally.
