This is a great question! The word "President" is usually used to refer to the head of state of a country that is a republic, meaning a country that has no King or Queen. Whereas a "Prime Minister" is usually the leader of the government of a country that has some type of monarchy, republic, or another system of government. In some systems of government (such as the USA), the president is both the head of state and the leader of the government. Ex: Australia and Canada both have Prime Ministers because they are part of the Commonwealth and technically still ruled by the Queen of England. Ex: Indonesia has a President and the is also the leader of the government.
