Is it necessary to say "old" at the end when mentioning your age?

Yes, it is necessary! It might sound very awkward without it. The "old" part highlights that continual process of becoming old and aging, and that's how many years you've been alive. Ex: My daughter is turning 12 years old this year. Ex: How old are you? => Even when you ask someone's age, "old" is necessary to say.
