What's the difference between "remind [something]" and "remember [something]"?

To "remind something/someone" means to help someone else to remember a task, an item, etc. To "remember something" means that you are recalling or recollecting something. Ex: I had to remind him about his doctor's appointment. Ex: She remembers the horrors of the war when she was a child. Ex: Remind me later about going to the grocery store. Ex: Do you remember me?
