It ruins a larger part of the fabric and isn't just a small hole. Another name for it is a "ladder." Ex: I have a run in my tights. I don't know when I got it! Ex: I need to buy new stockings. I have runs in all of them. = I need to buy new stockings. All of mine have ladders.
