And since the Pokemon are held captive, "return" implies that the Pokemon willingly went or were allowed to go for a certain period of time- rather than being held captive. Ex: Hey Norris! Thanks for looking after my dog this week. You can return him to me tomorrow. Ex: Thanks for letting me borrow your game. I'll return it this weekend! Ex: Please, return your rock climbing gear before you leave the gym. Ex: Give me back my cell phone! I never said you could use it.
