If something is "chewy", it means that it takes a long time to chew and swallow it. The same way one "chews" gum- gum can be described as "chewy". It usually refers to a negative experience when eating. Ex: Oh no. I messed up the recipe. The bread is too chewy. Ex: The meat isn't tender enough. It's very chewy.
