Does the word "principle" and "principal" is somewhat related? Does the school's headmaster is called the "principal" because he/she is the one who oversees the principles within the school?

I really like the connection you have made! Although, the connection is coincidental. The origins and the meanings are different. They just happen to be similar! So, "principal" does mean the head of the school, whereas a "principle" means a rule or belief. Ex: The principle of the matter is that you shouldn't have treated her like that. Ex: I got sent to the principal's office for misbehaving in class. Ex: It's a persona principle of mine to treat everyone kindly.
