What's the difference to say between "lots of" and "a lot of?"

They mean the same thing, really! You could use either "lots of" or "a lot of," they both mean a large amount or number of things or people. Although, I would say that "lots of" is slightly more casual than "a lot of," but not drastically. Ex: A lot of people came to the event last night. = Lots of people came to the event last night. Ex: I have a lot of free time on the weekend. = I have lots of free time on the weekend.
