More literally, it means to be carried further by something or someone. Ex: I'm sorry. I got carried away with party planning and ordered a bouncy castle for the day. I think it's over budget. Ex: Sometimes, I get carried away with work and forget to have a break. Ex: I hope the river doesn't carry us away.
