The main difference is whether the data is coming to you <downloading>, or if it's sent by you <uploading>. Ex: I'm downloading the file you sent me now. Ex: I have no more space to download apps on my phone! Ex: Sam, can you upload your presentation onto the class computer, please. Ex: I'm uploading a photo onto my social media account.
