Is there a difference between "describe" and "depict?" because I saw "describe" more commonly than "depict"

"Describe" and "depict" have similar meanings and can sometimes be used interchangeably. As verbs, the main difference between "describe" and "depict" is that: "Describe" is to represent something in words. "Depict" is to represent something using words, sounds, images, or other means. Ex: I can't describe how helpless I felt. (using words) Ex: She wanted to express her feelings for him, but mere words could not describe them. Ex: The wall was painted with a large mural depicting famous scenes from American history. Ex: The photograph depicts the two brothers standing in front of a store.
