Kiwi asks…

What's "sway" mean and in what contexts can be used?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

Here, "sway" means to influence or control someone or a process of action. It can be used in contexts of trying to persuade someone to do something or perhaps when talking about influencers and politics. "Sway" can also mean a slow rhythmical movement back and forth. Ex: She tried to persuade me to get the chocolate ice cream, but I wouldn't be swayed. Ex: Turns out, the support and influence of a big celebrity swayed the vote in her favor. Ex: I usually sway to the music I'm listening to.
