Here, to "go through" something means to experience or undergo an experience or situation. Usually a difficult one. It can also mean to search or examine something, or to use up all your money or resources. Ex: I can't believe I had to go through high school with a terrible haircut. Ex: The airport security went through my bags when I arrived.
