Kiwi asks…

What's "hadda?" What's it mean? Is it commonly used?

Answer from a Native speaker

teacher

Rebecca

"Hadda" is an informal contraction of "had to". It can be used in informal conversations but should not be used in formal written texts. We can also contract "want to" in a similar way and say "wanna". Ex: We hadda leave; it was getting too late. = We had to leave because it was getting too late. Ex: I hadda go to the event, but I really didn't wanna. = I had to go to the event, but I really didn't want to go.
