What's the difference between "bidder" and "buyer"?

A "bidder" is someone who offers a specific price for an item. The person selling the product may or may not sell to that bidder, depending on who offers the most money for that product. You will typically see people bid on items at auctions. A "buyer" is someone who purchases a product, the customer. Ex: The bidder is offering two million for that painting. Ex: She is the highest bidder. Ex: We are first-time home buyers. Ex: The company was sold to a buyer from Japan.
