Kiwi asks…

Can I just drop "of" and say "maybe getting"?

Answer from a Native speaker

Rebecca

Yes, you can. The sentence does not need "of" to make sense and still convey the same meaning. The sentence would be, "I thought maybe getting something Black Widow related." Here are examples where "of" can be omitted. Ex: She is off of the clock. = She is off the clock. Ex: Both of the kittens are male. = Both the kittens are male.
