Why did he say "hot dog" here? Is it kind of a metaphor?

He mentions "hot dogs" here to say that "if people knew where babies really came from, they'd never have one", similarly, people would not eat hot dogs if they "knew where they really came from" i.e. how they were made. He is implying that where babies come from and how hot dogs are made are both "disturbing".
