そうとも言えますが、完全に同じ意味ではありません！「for one thing」とは、複数の考えられる理由のうちのひとつに言及する表現です。「one reason is」が近い表現でしょう。一方で「for example」は、ありそうな事態や典型的なケースに言及する表現です。 例: I like working at home! One reason is that I can be at home with my dog. = I like working at home! For one thing, I can be at home with my dog.（家で働くのが好きです！理由のひとつに、犬といっしょにいられることがあります。） 例: I like being at home with my dog. For instance, I took my dog for a walk during lunch yesterday.（犬といっしょに家にいるのが好きです。たとえば、昨日はランチのときに犬を散歩に連れて行きました。）=> for instance = for example 例: I prefer soccer games over baseball matches.
