A "ring-fenced" area is a place that has restrictions on it and can only be used for certain purposes. The term "ring-fence" can also be applied to finance and businesses, where a grant or fund is viewed as separate to other entities. Ex: They government ring-fenced an area to test their rocket technology. Ex: We need to ring-fence the funds for our next venture.
