Yes! That's right. It's similar to "achieved" or "done." There is a slight nuance in that if you have worked for something, it's possible you may not have the desired result yet. So you could put in all the effort and work to get something but may not have it. It just depends on the context. Ex: I got into Harvard! I've worked for this my whole life. But now I'm not sure if I want it. Ex: I worked to get this position for ten years. And two years ago, I finally got it.
