The origin of the word "star" comes from the Latin word "stella" which means "celestial star." We call celebrities stars because of the metaphorical reference of a star. They brighten up a space, and people notice stars the same way that celebrities are noticed! Ex: She was like a star on the stage. Ex: When I'm older, I want to be a star.
