No, en este caso, suena un poco raro, si se remplaza "open up" por "open". Esto se debe a que "open up" es un Phrasal Verb y tiene un ligero matiz diferente a "open". "To open up" significa revelar, abrirse o comunicar algo de manera honesta. Ej: "She won't open up about her childhood." (No se abre respecto a su infancia.) Ej: "I'm trying to get the students to open up, but they are all very shy." (Estoy intentando que los alumnos se abran a mí, pero son todos muy tímidos.)
